YouTube Copy that Converts: Top 3 Tips

From monetizing to enhancing brand awareness, when it comes to video content, YouTube is King. No matter what your goals are for your YouTube channel, good copy will help you convert into more clicks and views. Here are my top 3 tips to copy that converts:

  1. Create click-worthy thumbnails

Do thumbnails even matter for SEO and reach? Yes. Thumbnails are the first thing people see. Both the image and the copy on the thumbnail have to be intriguing enough for viewers to WANT to click on and watch your video. So make sure you have clear and high-quality images. AND short, catchy thumbnail copy that lets people know what the video will be about. It’s best to use 3-4 words so there isn’t too much clutter. I know that’s not a lot to work with. So if you’ve got this vlogging thing down but don’t have the time to craft creative copy, find a freelance copywriter to write it for you!

2. Hook with headlines

Headlines and titles play a huge role for YouTube SEO. Search keywords that are relevant to your video and will help you come up in search. Like your thumbnail copy, you want to keep your headlines short. Limit them to 70 characters and make sure the full headline is visible on mobile too—this will help you get more clicks!

3. Be purposeful with descriptions

If you know how the movie ends, will you still watch the whole thing? Even if you do, you’ll probably be less engaged. You won’t be anticipating as much since you know what’s going to happen. It won’t have the WOW factor that increases video shares and helps you go viral! So when you’re writing the descriptions for your YouTube videos, let them know enough, BUT keep them wanting MORE.
