Unlocking the Keys to the Kingdom of Email Marketing
I’ve spoken to many writers and marketers that said they tried email marketing, but it didn’t “work.” They didn’t get the sales they thought they would. Or capture emails that were relevant for their services. Which is why I’m giving you my secrets. So you can get out there and capture your kingdom—because you deserve it.
Check out my top 6 email marketing tips to capture YOUR kingdom:
Know your audience
Who is your ideal client? What are their pain points? What problems of theirs are you trying to solve? You have to understand how your audience FEELS. You have to be one with your clients to understand what they want from you. And…HOW they’d like to be spoken to. If you’re a local Burbank fitness trainer, helping people rehab their injuries, you can use “pain points” but you need to have empathy. If you’re selling bug spray to avid hikers and campers, you can really focus on the pain point to sell.
Understanding emotions and how they play out in sales is one of the biggest keys to your kingdom in email marketing.
2. Write like a friend
Who would you rather get communication from—a friend or salesperson? We all know the answer to that question. You want to come across as a friend solving your friend’s problems. You can establish your expertise while remaining humble and easy to relate to. Otherwise, people will ignore your emails. No one wants to feel less than. Remember, your audience is the main character. They are the heroes of the story.
3. Capture relevant emails
No buying email lists. No cold emails. Generate leads organically by offering a free product that is relevant to the pain points of your audience. That way, they’ll want to hear more. You want to email people that WANT to hear from you. So make sure they’re giving you the green light. Consent is key.
4. Create compelling subject lines
In less than 10 words, you have to make people want to open AND read your email. That’s hard. This is when many people realize, it’s wise to have the help of a professional copywriter.
5. Use personalization techniques
Each email service provider has a different code for capturing your recipients’ first names. Use it. And use this throughout your email to catch even more attention.
Also separate your lists into different segments. And tailor the messaging for each list or segment. Going back to the personal trainer example, you may have different emails you’re sending to people who are injured and to others who are strength training and want to learn your unique methods.
6. Be consistent
Consistency is KEY. In all areas of marketing. And in life. You can’t eat healthy for one week and expect to lose the extra 10 pounds by going back to eating fried foods every day. You can’t expect to gain muscle by only working out when you feel like it. It’s the same thing in email marketing. You need to send messages consistently. It takes 8-12 touches for a potential client to close business. They need to hear from you multiple times. You need to keep planting the seeds. Because you never know when the harvest will bloom.
